Ege University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Surgery Lecturer Assoc. Dr. Emre Divarcı and his team removed a cyst and tumor from the abdomen of an 8-year-old boy with Robotic Surgery.
A great success has been recorded in robotic surgery operations that started in 2012 at Ege University Medical Faculty Hospital. The number of operations performed with robotic surgery in the hospital has reached a thousand, and it is in the first place among the health institutions in the Aegean Region. Ege University Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Budak stated that they are the leading university in robotic surgery and said, “To date, more than a thousand robotic surgery procedures have been performed within our hospital. This technology not only simplifies the work of our surgeons, but also enables our patients to recover in a shorter time after surgery. Competent surgeons of Ege University share their experience in robotic surgery with other surgeons in our country and around the world. Assoc. Dr. Emre Divarcı and his team successfully removed a tumor and cyst from the abdomen of our 8-year-old patient. I congratulate our entire team,” he said.
Giving information about the operation, Ege University Faculty of Medicine Department of Pediatric Surgery Lecturer Assoc. Dr. Emre Divarcı said, “The surgery we performed today was an operation related to an intra-abdominal cyst and tumor in an 8-year-old male patient. The location of the cyst and tumor was close to the great arteries and veins. Therefore, using the advantages of robotic surgery, we operated on our patient today with robotic surgery.”
Referring to the advantages of robotic surgery, Assoc. Dr. Emre Divarcı said, “Robotic Surgery is part of the high-level health care we provide to our patients. We offer many important contributions to surgeons. One of the most important of these is that in a normal surgical operation, hands may not be able to enter all areas in small areas. In robotic surgery, you can have a large range of motion even in small areas. Because the equipment used is small and their area of influence is quite large compared to their small size. This brings great convenience to us surgeons. We will also work on making our university a national and international training center in robotic surgery. Our surgeons will share their experiences in this field with their colleagues.”
Saying that robotic surgery has made great progress in our country, EÜ Faculty of Medicine Department of Pediatric Surgery Lecturer Assoc. Dr. Zafer Dökümcü said, “Robotic surgery is used in our country within the Faculty of Medicine of EU. This technology provides great convenience for surgeries. With our experience, we are making difficult surgeries that we would have difficulty in performing with human hands easier and more convenient with this technology.”
The first case with Robotic Surgery at Ege University Faculty of Medicine Hospital in Gynecology Clinic, Prof. Dr. It was carried out by Fatih Şendağ in 2012. After this beginning, Ege University Medical Faculty Hospital turned into an experienced Robotic Surgery center with hundreds of surgeries for prostate cancer and enlargement, kidney cancer and duct stenosis performed by the Urology Clinic. After the Urology Clinic, the General Surgery Clinic and the Pediatric Surgery Clinic also made a name for themselves with the firsts they performed.
