Hair loss (Pilonidal sinus); It is a disease caused by hairballs under the skin in the coccyx. The most common symptom is pain, discharge and redness on the coccyx. It is 4-5 times more common in men. It is seen in the adolescent age group in children.

Why Does Rotation Occur?

A foreign body reaction develops against the hair under the skin and an inflammatory swelling occurs. An abscess occurs when the swelling becomes infected. The abscess opens into the skin and pilonidal sinus disease develops.

What is the Treatment of Hair Regrowth?

Treatment methods are different according to the preference of the physician. Non-surgical treatment: Phenol Treatment: It is the introduction of a sclerosing (astringent) substance into the hair-filled socket. It may be necessary to repeat the treatment. cauterization of the socket, cryotherapy; It is the process of scraping and freezing the area. Silver nitrate and 80-90% alcohol can be applied into the bristle-filled socket. Surgical treatment: The surgical area should be cleaned of hair with depilatory pomades or by shaving. If there is an infection, it is treated first and a warm sitz bath is recommended. In the surgery, the hair-filled subcutaneous space in the coccyx area is removed together with the skin on it. There are various surgical methods. The first is fistulotomy and curettage. The hair-filled socket is removed together with the skin on it and turned into an open wound, and the wound is left to heal on its own. The disadvantage is that it requires dressing for a long time. Average recovery time is 1-1.5 months. The second is the method we call sinus excision and marsupialization. It is the process of removing the hair-filled slot together with the skin on it, partially closing it from the sides and leaving the middle open. Recovery may take up to 1 month. The third is sinus excision and primary closure. Recovery time is usually 2 weeks. The recurrence rate is between 16-22%. The last method is the flap method. Recovery time is 2 weeks. The recurrence rate is 1%. It is considered the most successful method. However, it can cause cosmetic problems.
