Ege University Faculty of Medicine Department of Pediatric Surgery Pediatric Surgeon Bekillili Op. Dr. Emre Divarcı was awarded the second prize in "Case Presentations" at the European Congress of Pediatric Surgery (EUPSA, Milano 2016) held in Milan, Italy.

A large number of doctors from Asia and Africa, especially from European countries, attended the 17th EUPSA Congress held by the European Association of Pediatric Surgeons. In Congress, Op. Dr. Emre Divarcı was awarded the 2nd prize for his presentation on Jiune Syndrome due to thoracic stenosis.
Kiss. Dr. Emre Divarcı evaluated his presentation, which brought him the second place in Europe. Divarcı said, “The surgery we performed is life-saving and can be performed in very few centers in Turkey. The patient's complaint is Jeune Syndrome: The lungs cannot expand due to stenosis of the rib cage and most of the children die in the first year. The brother of this patient whom we operated on also died of the same disease. After this surgery, the patient got rid of the ventilator. He goes on with his life,” he said.
Saying that the difficulty of the surgery is that it is done in very few centers around the world, Op. Dr. Divarcı said, “Before us, these patients were lost because there was no surgery in Turkey. Knowing that this surgery is performed in the Ege University Pediatric Surgery clinic may be hope for patients across the country. It is important in this respect. We are also pleased that this has received a response in a very important institution around the world in the branch of Pediatric Surgery, such as European Pediatric Surgery," he said.
